UF Health Science Center Libraries: Historical Photo Album Online
This is from the University of Florida Health Science Center Libraries:
In celebration of Black History Month, the HSC Library has created an album of ‘Historical Photos of African Americans in the Health Science Center.’ The photos are courtesy of the UF Digital Collections.
The album is online, on the UF Health Science Center Libraries Facebook page and this is the direct link to the album.
Historic Everglades Images on Flickr
America’s Swamp: the Historic Everglades, a new collection within the University of Florida Digital Collections should be up this week. In the meantime, we’ve already started loading some of the photos to Flickr. If the photos on Flickr aren’t enough, the Everglades Digital Library from FIU’s Digital Collections Center is already a massive digital collection of amazing material, and it’s always growing.
Identify Gainesville Photos
The Alachua County Historic Trust: Matheson Museum, Inc. and the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries need help identifying historic photographs taken in Gainesville from 1920-1970. The photographs were taken by Elmer Harvey Bone and they’re all online within the Elmer Harvey Bone Collection here.
The Elmer Harvey Bone Collection is particularly important to the Digital Library Center because the collection is shared between the Matheson Museum and the University Archives, and because our own Lourdes Santamaria-Wheeler chosen this collection for her graduate work in museum studies because of the way it connects traditional library and museum collections. The Gainesville Sun newspaper has an article on the collection, and please dive into the collection and let help us find the names of the men in the “Best Beard” contest, the names of the people in the Brown Wedding party, and all of the others!
Flickr Updated
We’ve updated our Flickr images! We’re still working on adding in an auto-load to Flickr which should be simple, but we need some controls on it so bandwidth and server space aren’t issues and so that we load in a systematic manner. Right now, it’s just loading to have another venue for access and one that we’ll continue to build in the future.
The updated photos are old black and white images of campus. We still need to add the labels for these, so hopefully Flickr users could help us on some of these. I’m interested to see if users label these buildings before we have time to, and which buildings get labeled or commented on and what types of comments are posted. Check out our Flickr pages, and label a few if you know what they are!
Also, subscribe to our feed to know when new images are loaded.
